Functions of Political Party

The main function of a political party is to fill political positions and use power. 

To achieve this goal,political parties do the following:

Contesting elections

Political party contests elections. A party nominates its candidates for different constituencies.

 Policy making

The political party puts forth its policies and programs so that the voter can choose any one party. A political party brings together many different views of the same kind under one roof. Policies and programs are decided without these opinions. The policies and programs of any ruling party are expected to be implemented by the government.

Law making

Political parties play an important role in making laws of the country. You must be aware that a law is passed by the legislature only after proper debate. Since most of the members of the legislature are members of political parties, political parties have a direct role in the making of any law.

Formation of Government

 Political parties form and run the government. The executive is constituted by the people of the ruling party. Different politicians are given the responsibility of different ministries to run the government.

Role of Opposition

The party which is not in majority or is not part of majority coalition has to play the role of opposition.

Formation of Public Opinion

 Political parties create public opinion. They do this by raising and airing issues in the legislature and the media. The workers of any major party are spread all over the country. It is the job of these workers to do public awareness according to their party.

Making people accessible to government machinery

Political parties work to make people accessible to government machinery and public welfare schemes. This helps them to win elections.

राजनीतिक पार्टी का मुख्य काम होता है राजनैतिक पदों को भरना और सत्ता का इस्तेमाल करना। इस लक्ष्य को प्राप्त करने के लिये राजनीतिक पार्टियाँ निम्नलिखित कार्य करती हैं:

चुनाव लड़ना: राजनीतिक पार्टी चुनाव लड़ती है। एक पार्टी अलग अलग निर्वाचन क्षेत्रों के लिये अपने उम्मीदवार मनोनीत करती है।

नीति बनाना: राजनीतिक पार्टी अपनी नीतियों और कार्यक्रमों को सामने रखती है ताकि मतदाता किसी एक पार्टी का चुनाव कर सके। एक राजनीतिक पार्टी एक ही तरह के असंख्य मतधारणाओं को एक ही छत के नीचे लाती है। इन मतधारणाओं के बिना पर नीतियों और कार्यक्रमों को तय किया जाता है। किसी भी सत्ताधारी दल की नीतियों और कार्यक्रमों को सरकार द्वारा क्रियांवित करने की अपेक्षा की जाती है।

कानून बनाना: देश के कानून को बनाने में राजनीतिक पार्टियों की अहम भूमिका होती है। आपको पता ही होगा कि विधायिका द्वारा समुचित बहस के बाद ही किसी कानून को पास किया जाता है। चूँकि विधायिका के अधिकतर सदस्य राजनीतिक पार्टियों के सदस्य होते हैं इसलिये किसी भी कानून के बनने में राजनीतिक दलों का की प्रत्यक्ष भूमिका होती है।

सरकार बनाना: राजनीतिक पार्टियाँ सरकार बनाती और चलाती हैं। कार्यपालिका का गठन सत्ताधारी दल के लोगों द्वारा होता है। विभिन्न राजनेताओं को सरकार चलाने के लिये अलग अलग मंत्रालयों की जिम्मेदारी दी जाती है।

विपक्ष की भूमिका: जो पार्टी बहुमत में नहीं होती है या बहुमत वाले गठबंधन का हिस्सा नहीं होती है उसे विपक्ष की भूमिका निभानी पड़ती है।

जनमत का निर्माण: राजनीतिक पार्टियाँ जनमत का निर्माण करती हैं। वे ऐसा करने के लिये विधायिका और मीडिया में मुद्दों को उठाती हैं और उनको हवा देती हैं। किसी भी बड़ी पार्टी के कार्यकर्ता पूरे देश में फैले होते हैं। इन कार्यकर्ताओं का काम होता है कि अपनी पार्टी के अनुसार जन जागरण करते रहें।

सरकारी मशीनरी तक लोगों की पहुँच बनाना: राजनीतिक पार्टियाँ सरकारी मशीनरी और जनकल्याण योजनाओं तक लोगों की पहुँच बनाने का काम करती हैं। इससे उन्हें चुनाव जीतने में मदद मिलती है।
